Samantha
was raised in Chicago. She met and married Jerry Sollars, and they
had a daughter, Janelle. Samantha became a doctor. While working
in a Chicago hospital, she discovered that another doctor was running
an illegal drug ring for the mob. Samantha turned him in, and she
and her family were put in the witness protection plan. She was
renamed Patricia Williams, and her family moved to Knots Landing,
where Pat became a customer service employee in a bank.
Pat
had to go to Washington DC to testify against her colleague. While
there, she was stabbed in the arm. Next-door-neighbors the McKenzie's
figured out the Williams situation, but agreed to keep it a secret.
One day an orderly from Pat's previous hospital saw her at the mall.
He tried to blackmail the Williams, and for safety, she and Julie
went to stay at Gary's ranch. While there, she developed a crush
on Gary.
Mac
and Frank were able to take care of the blackmailer, and then Mac
arranged for it to look as though she and her family were in a car
accident, so they would no longer have to hide. Pat really missed
practicing medicine, and decided to apply for her California license.
This really upset Frank, who felt that it would give away that they
hadn't really died, and put them in danger. He and Pat argued about
it, and he said if she went ahead with it, he would leave her. Pat
persisted, so he left. Pat and Frank missed one another terribly,
and after a few days, they decided to make up.
Since
they were first married, Pat and Frank had made a pact, that whenever
they made up after an especially big arguement, they would do it
while eating spumoni. Pat went out to get some before Frank came
home. Danny Waleska, who was drunk, pulled into the cul-de-sac a
few moments after Pat did, and as she got out of her car, he hit
her with his car. Pat was rushed to the hospital. At first it looked
like she might be okay, but then she had a brain hemorage and went
into a coma. The doctors told Frank that she was brain dead, and
he had to make the devastating decision to take her off life support.
Frank sang to his beloved wife as she died.

Jerry
Sollars grew up in Chicago. He married his wife Samantha, who became
a physician. Jerry became a policeman. They had one daughter, Janelle.
When Samantha turned in a colleague involved in illegal activities,
the family entered the Witness Protection Program. They were moved
to Knots Landing, and he was renamed Frank Williams.
Frank
was very paranoid that the family would be found out and put in
danger. At times he resented his wife for getting the family into
this situation. Frank really missed being a cop. Although he tried
several jobs, such as being a salesman, he wasn't able to hold a
position for very long. Frank had become good friends with Mac,
who had figured their situation out, and finally found his niche
when Mac hired him as an investigator at his law practice.
At
one point, the family was blackmailed. Mac and Frank discovered
it was an orderly/actor from Pat's old hospital, and caught him.
After that, Mac arranged to have it look as though the family had
died in a car accident, so they would have more freedom. Nevertheless,
when Pat wanted to return to medicine, Frank felt it would expose
the family to danger again. He and Pat disagreed so strongly, that
he left her and moved into Mac's office for a few days. Missing
her, they decided to make up and get back together. Since they always
made up over Spumoni, Frank stopped for some on his way home. He
pulled into the cul-de-sac just in time to see a drunk Danny Waleska
hit Pat with his car.
At
the hospital, Pat and Frank made up and declared their love for
one another. Pat then had a brain hemmorage, and the doctor told
Frank that Pat was brain dead with no chance of recovery. He found
Julie at Danny's with a rifle, ready to kill him. Frank told her
that if she did, she would be no better than Danny, and she reconsidered.
Frank sang to Pat as her life support system was removed and she
died.
After
Pat's death, Frank and Julie had some problems. She was skipping
school and hanging out with kids he didn't like. Frank warned her
he would go to school and sit in class with her if she skipped again.
She did, and so he kept his promise. Frank met Julie's English teacher,
Charlotte, and they began to date. Frank also went to law school.
When he graduated, he took a job with a fancy law firm, but soon
returned to work with Mac. When he and Charlotte broke up, he went
on several dates, most of them disastrous. For awhile he dated Debbie
Porter, whom he had met through Karen, but they didn't have much
in common. Frank eventually sent Julie back to Chicago to live with
relatives, and then moved back there himself. Today he is still
an attorney in Chicago.

Janelle
Sollars was born and raised in Chicago. Her mother was a witness
in a Federal Crime Case, and so the family moved to Knots Landing
California, and she was renamed Julie Williams. Being in the WPP
was not easy for young Julie. She couldn't be in class photos, and
had to throw a spelling bee that she could have easily won. Otherwise
Julie seemed to adjust to her new life. She made friends and babysat
for neighbor Val's twins.
Julie
was upset when Frank left Pat when Pat wanted to be a Doctor again.
Julie decided to help them get back together, and missing each other,
they too wanted to make up. Pat told Julie that whenever she and
Frank made up after a big arguement, they had made a pact to do
it over spumoni. Pat left to get some at the store, and as she got
home, Danny Waleska, who was very drunk, hit Pat with her car. Pat
had internal injuries, and went into a coma. Julie was sure she
would get better, but then heard Danny say that they would take
Pat off life support. Enraged, Julie wanted to hire an attorney
to stop it, but Frank explained that Pat was brain dead. Julie broke
into Danny's house and found his rifle. When Danny got home, she
held it up to him, and said that he was going to die before Pat
did. Julie shot, but missed. Frank heard and came running over.
He told Julie that Danny deserved to die, but if she shot him, she
would be no better than he was, and her mother raised her to be
better than that. Julie gave the gun to Frank.
Julie
was devastated at Pat's death. She took refuge with her friends,
including Jason Lochner, who Frank hated. One day Julie stayed home
from school, and went swimming in the pool of the vacant house next
door. Suddenly Danny Waleska came up to her. He was drunk, and started
yelling that he was going to turn her in for trying to shoot him.
He chased her around the pool. She ran home, with Danny following.
She managed to get in the back door, and slammed it, but Danny's
hands were in the frame and he broke his fingers. Drunk and in pain,
he stumbled around and fell into the pool where he drown. Upset,
Julie started skipping school.
Tired
of her disobeying and not going to school, Frank dragged her there
and sat through all of her classes with her. Julie was mortified.
She also noticed that there seemed to be an attraction between her
dad and her English teacher, and decided to set them up. As things
settled down, her relationship with Frank improved. Julie began
to date a classmate, Horace, but they broke up. She was becoming
close with Jason Lochner, who was now living next door at the McKenzie's.
Julie and Jason began to date. Jason later won an essay contest
and his prize was to study abroad in Sweden. At the same time, Frank
decided to send Julie to stay with relatives in Chicago, and soon
moved there himself. Julie still lives in Chicago.

In
college, Linda met and married Eric Fairgate. At first the marriage
was happy, and she was thrilled to have found a nice guy who shared
her concerns with the environment and social causes. Eric took her
to meet his family, and she didn't really take to his mother Karen.
After awhile, the marriage started to sour. Linda and Eric thought
some time apart would do them good. Eric took a job in Saudi Arabia.
Since Linda did not get along with her mother, Eric took her to
live with the McKenzie's until his return.
At
the McKenzies, Linda and Eric's brother Michael hit it off and became
friends. Michael told Linda about a girl at work who had turned
him down when he asked her to the company party. Linda suggested
she pose as Michael's date to make the girl jealous. Michael agreed,
and Linda pretended to be "Theresa". While out that night, both
Michael and Linda realized that they were very attracted to one
another. Michael tried to fight it, but he and Linda began an affair.
When Eric came back to visit, Linda told him she wanted a divorce,
that she was in love with Michael. After Eric left, Michael told
her that they couldn't see each other anymore. Linda got her own
apartment with money from Michael, and took a job at the Sumner
Group where Michael worked. He tried to avoid her, so Linda manipulated
her way into sharing an office with him. Then Linda told him that
Eric would beat her. Feeling sorry for her, Michael began to speak
to her again, and soon they were back together.
As
Michael fell more and more in love with her, Linda was discovering
her ambitious side. Linda became even more manipulative, usurping
everyone she could, taking credit for things she didn't do, jumping
the gun on projects to make others look bad, and using sex to get
confidential information from people. Linda rose through the ranks.
She and Michael bought a condo together and became engaged. Soon
after, she knew that Michael would never be ambitious enough for
her, but strung him along while she had affairs with others.
Linda
began to sleep with Greg Sumner, and she and Paige became mortal
enemies. They traded insults regularly, and Linda tried to ingratiate
herself to Mrs. Richfield, Paige's (and the Sumner Group's) biggest
account, and soon was on the account herself. Linda then dumped
Michael, and screwed him out of a lot of money on their condo. Although
he still loved her for awhile, his eyes were finally opened, and
he saw her for what she truly was. Michael quit and left Knots Landing
to travel. Greg asked Linda to move to his ranch with him, and she
agreed.
Linda
was introduced to Brian Johnston, the architect hired to design
Sumner Plaza. Linda already knew Brian -- he was an old fling from
college. When Brian struck out with Paige, he and Linda resumed
their old affair, even as she packed to move in with Greg. She and
Brian made a videotape of themselves having sex. Suddenly, Brian
came up missing, and her video was missing too. Then Brian called
Linda. His wife had been having him followed, and he had killed
the detective. He had the video of him and Linda, and told Linda
he would give it to her in exchange for getting some gold pieces
out of his gym locker. He also promised her one of the gold pieces.
His plan was to say he had suffered from amnesia, and then go back
and resume his life.
Linda
went to the gym posing as Brian's wife, and got his gym bag. Brian
gave her the tape, but decided to follow her. Linda wanted more
money. Knowing Brian's wife was rich, she went to her and told her
she would tell her where Brian was for $50,000. Mrs. Johnston paid
her, and Linda told her about everything that had happened. Linda
returned home later that day, to find Brian in her apartment. Brian
screamed that she had ruined everything, and took out a knife. Linda
tried to do some fast talking, but it didn't work. Brian slashed
her throat and Linda died.

Paula
Vertosic was a pretty forest ranger who worked for a California
state park in the mountains. As part of her job, she did wildlife
slide shows at a local mountain resort and lead nature hikes. One
day Mac McKenzie came to her lecture. He was the only one who showed
up, so she gave him a personal lecture and hike. Afterwards they
went for drinks and talked about their personal lives. Over the
few days Mac was on vacation there, they became very close and were
attracted to one another. Paula invited Mac to come to her cabin,
but he couldn't cheat on his wife.
A
few months later, Paula became friendly with a group of young people
on vacation. One guy, Michael Fairgate, was depressed over his bad
luck with women, and Paula gave him some advice. While talking,
she told him that she had just taken a job as a lecturer at the
University he attended, and Michael told her to look him up when
he got to Knots Landing. She did, and she and Michael became friends.
When Michael's mother Karen needed to know some environmental data
for the board she sat on, Michael put them in touch with each other.
Karen and Paula became fast friends. They shared a love of protecting
the environment and soon worked together on many projects. Karen
had Paula over for dinner, wanting her to meet the now-single Gary
Ewing, and Paula was shocked to find that Mac was Karen's husband.
Paula
and Mac continued to be very attracted to one another. Mac had several
fantasies about her. Paula admitted to Michael that she was in love
with a married man, but didn't tell him it was Mac. Karen invited
Paula to stay with them for a few days when work was being done
on her apartment. Paula and Mac were uncomfortable being in such
close proximity to one another, since their mutual attraction was
so strong.
Paula
continued to help Karen with her environmental boards. The meetings
were held in a conference room at the Sumner Group. One day Paula
met Greg, and they began trading barbs. Underneath, there was an
attraction. Greg and Paula began to date. She felt that underneath
Greg's blustery and over-confidant demeaner there was the heart
of a sensitive little boy, and Paula was determined to get to that
part of Greg. Paula soon became a bit frusterated with Greg. She
felt that Greg called her whenever he wanted a diversion, and she
wanted a more serious relationship. She also felt that Greg took
her for granted, and she wanted him to prove to her that he cared
about her. Karen asked her why on earth she was dating Greg, and
Paula admitted she loved him.
When
Greg was shot and poisoned by Mary Francis's boyfriend, Paula kept
vigil at the hospital. She never left Greg's side. When Greg was
recovering from his liver transplant, and still unresponsive, Paula
stayed with him, talking to him, begging him to come out of it and
respond. Then Anne, who had returned to Knots Landing, walked into
his room. Greg said "Anne!" and Paula was crushed.
When
Greg returned home, Paula was determined that he would follow his
doctors health guidelines, and change his life. Paula took care
of him, and wouldn't allow him to drink or eat foods that were bad
for him. Then Anne would show up with Champagne, and drink with
him. Paula would be mad, and remind him he was not supposed to drink.
Greg would refer to her as "mom" and say he didn't need her taking
care of him. When Anne was around, Greg pretty much ignored Paula.
Paula decided to fight fire with fire, and showed up at Greg's wearing
a sexy dress and bought him a bottle of vodka. Greg was amused at
this new side of Paula. Paula finally had it with Greg. She was
offered a job in another state, and decided to accept it. Paula
ran into Greg while leaving her last environmental meeting. He asked
her why she hadn't told him she was going to leave. Paula was very
angry, and started yelling at Greg in front of all the employees
about how selfish he was, and how he didn't take things seriously.
She yelled that she was the best thing that ever happened to him,
and if he couldn't appreciate her, then it was his loss. Paula moved
away, and is still a forest ranger today.
